They worshipped the Water God. Her song was a sweet melody, encapsulating the sailors yet to come…
It was said that the Great Seed had graced the water long before the sirens and merfolk thrived in its depths. The sea creatures of the night had seen it themselves, sworn to it as they watched the sapphire stone glass carved from the tears of the blue sky itself, fall and plummet until it collided against the sandy floors, plumes of smoke rising from it like a fire in the seas. Its darkness had leeched into the waters, swirling amongst the midst of the creatures until they were consumed with its magic themselves.
Magic, they had thought—the fish and the sharks and the swimmers of the night all enthralled with this powerful sorcery. It wasn’t for long that the merfolk were born—born from the seed of the stone, their sable hair and blue eyes, almost as dark as the black ocean abyss, erected from its power.
And so they were alive.
